The founders of Brazilectro, Zuco 103 are back with their sixth album, recorded partly in Rio de Janeiro and partly in Holland. The three musicians, Rio-born vocalist/lyricist Lilian Vieira, keyboard man/producer Stefan Schmid from Munich and drummer/producer Stefan Kruger from Amsterdam, who make up the group, first collaborated in 1998 when they created a unique fusion of Brazilian music and European dance music. Copied by musicians throughout the world, on “After The Carnaval” they have moved away from sample-based music, giving the album a natural, acoustic sound.

The latest recording from Snail Records features the veteran Serbian Gypsy vocalist Saban Bajramovi, accompanied by the acclaimed Bosnian group Mostar Sevdah Reunion, performing a set of his own songs .Saban is now in his seventies and over a long career he has made more than 20 albums, composed more than 700 songs. Guest musicians include the Macedonian trumpeter Naat Veliov and violinist Slobodan Stancic.

This live recording was made at last year’s Telemark Festival in Norway which featured the acclaimed Norwegian folk musician Annbjørg Lien as festival composer. As part of an international folk music string quartet – Annbjørg Lien, Hardanger fiddle (Norway), Bruce Molsky, violin and vocals (USA); Christine Hanson, cello (Canada/Scotland); and Mikael Marin, viola (Sweden) – Lien performed her specially commissioned work ‘Waltz With Me’. The work was also performed at the Celtic Connections festival in Scotland in January 2008.
