The illustrious saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist/composer Kenny Garrett performs a set of open-ended melodies over grooves that reflect the artistry of key sidemen from Miles Davis' many groups – from John Coltrane to Kenny himself. Consisting of five extended original compositions, it’s a relaxed record of a performance in March 2008 by Garrett at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with his band (Benito Gonzales on piano, Nat Reeves on bass, and Jamire Williams on drums) plus special guest, tenor saxophone legend Pharoah Sanders.

This new studio session recorded in April 2008 pairs two masters of the same instrument, the American cornetist Warren Vache and the British trumpeter Derek Watkins. They are joined by a piano-less trio of musicians – guitarist Dave Cliff, bassist Spencer Brown and drummer Clark Tracey. They perform a set of classic jazz standards composed by the likes of Irving Berlin, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Freddie Hubbard and Horace Silver plus two originals by Vache, including a tribute to the late drummer Allan Ganley.

Gilfema is an innovative trio featuring Herbie Hancock’s guitarist Lionel Loueke, who recently released an album on Blue Note, drummer Ferenc Nemeth and bassist Massimo Biolcati. His debut solo release features two outstanding musicians, bassist Omer Avital and percussionist Jamey Haddad and they perform a set of original compositions that are influenced by Yavnai’s Israeli origins and his travels in Cape Verde, Angola and Brazil.
