The illustrious saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist/composer Kenny Garrett performs a set of open-ended melodies over grooves that reflect the artistry of key sidemen from Miles Davis' many groups – from John Coltrane to Kenny himself. Consisting of five extended original compositions, it’s a relaxed record of a performance in March 2008 by Garrett at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City with his band (Benito Gonzales on piano, Nat Reeves on bass, and Jamire Williams on drums) plus special guest, tenor saxophone legend Pharoah Sanders.

This 2001 recording brings together two generations of British jazz talent, the veteran reedsman Tony Coe and the youthful trumpeter Gerard Presencer, plus backing from the ever-reliable Brian Lemon on piano and Dave Green on bass. It’s an intimate affair – just four world class musicians, each a master of the jazz art with a unique style and personality, performing a selection of classic jazz standards composed by George Gershwin.

This new studio session recorded in April 2008 pairs two masters of the same instrument, the American cornetist Warren Vache and the British trumpeter Derek Watkins. They are joined by a piano-less trio of musicians – guitarist Dave Cliff, bassist Spencer Brown and drummer Clark Tracey. They perform a set of classic jazz standards composed by the likes of Irving Berlin, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Freddie Hubbard and Horace Silver plus two originals by Vache, including a tribute to the late drummer Allan Ganley.

Gilfema is an innovative trio featuring Herbie Hancock’s guitarist Lionel Loueke, who recently released an album on Blue Note, drummer Ferenc Nemeth and bassist Massimo Biolcati. For their second recording they are joined by two special guests, clarinettists Anat Cohen and John Elli. The result is a cross-cultural mix of acoustic jazz and African influences with strong melodies and powerful rhythmic undercurrents.

Pianist Alon Yavnai, winner of the 2008 Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album as part of the Paquito D’Rivera Quintet, has worked with a varied mix of artists Nancy Wilson, Rosa Passos, Joe Lovano and Yo-Yo Ma. His debut solo release features two outstanding musicians, bassist Omer Avital and percussionist Jamey Haddad and they perform a set of original compositions that are influenced by Yavnai’s Israeli origins and his travels in Cape Verde, Angola and Brazil.

The Scottish saxophonist Joe Temperley currently holds down the baritone sax chair in the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra led by Wynton Marsalis. He’s joined on this album by two other members of the JALCO, trumpeter Ryan Kisor and the young piano prodigy Dan Nimmer, plus guitarist James Chirillo, trombonist John Allred and alto/tenor saxist Andy Farber. The music pays tribute to one of the greatest of all jazz singers, Frank Sinatra, with small combo versions of some of his best-known songs..
