The British saxophonist and composer Barbara Thompson is best-known for her work with Paraphernalia, the band she formed with her husband, the drummer Jon Hiseman. Their latest release is their jazziest to date, as they pay homage to jazz’s great players, composers and bands. The album features standards by John Coltrane and Benny Golson plus originals including ‘Living in the Fast Lane’, originally composed as a three movement concerto for tuba and big band, re-arranged for Paraphernalia and some of the finest brass players in the UK.

Formed in the late 1970s, the Canadian band UZEB was one of the most popular groups in the history of fusion jazz. This 2CD set is made up of two previously available CDs: “Best Of” contains 11 of the band’s best tracks from their extensive catalogue and “Live In Bracknell” documents their first ever concert in Europe in 1981.

Alto saxophonist/composer Martin Speake follows up his 2006 release on ECM Records, “Change Of Heart” with the first album on his own Pumpkin Records label. ‘Spark’, is a totally improvised duo with the drummer and percussionist Mark Sanders. Speake’s playing remains true to his melodic concept and Sanders ranges from groove based to complete abstraction.

Previously available as JMS186442 (now deleted), ‘Sand’ features virtuoso guitarist Allan Holdworth's experiments with the Synthaxe – a cross between a guitar and a synthesizer. Sand also includes Alan Pasqua on keyboards, Jimmy Johnson on bass and Chad Wackerman on drums and percussion, among other artists.
