This new series of albums in effect follows on from the highly regarded Chronological Bing Crosby CDs issued by Jonzo Records. Recorded in 1950 and 1951 the 25 tracks, several with the Andrews Sisters, include songs from the Great American Songbook and Broadway shows and the booklet contains comprehensive recording details and liner notes are from the pen of Malcolm Macfarlane, Editor of the International Club Crosby magazine.

RHONDA FLEMING           Rhonda Fleming Sings Just For You       CD         SEPIA1112 
Actress Rhonda Fleming starred in over 40 films, countless television shows and stage productions, but was also an extremely talented singer. This collection covers the period from 1949, a duet with Bing Crosby, to 1957, an album of standards, simply entitled “Rhonda”.

A self confessed Anglophile, the celebrated vocalist Mel Tormé was a regular and welcome visitor to Britain, beginning with his first tour in 1956. The tracks on this compilation are taken from 1956 recordings with the orchestras of Ted Heath, Cyril Stapleton and Roland Shaw plus the 1957 LP “Mel Tormé Meets The British” with Wally Stott.

Denny Dennis, the “British Bing Crosby”, became a household name in the 1930s when he fronted the bands of Roy Fox and Ambrose. The 26 tracks on this compilation, many on CD for the first time, were recorded in the 1940s during Dennis’s career as a solo artist, backed by orchestras conducted by Stanley Black, Bob Farnon and Phil Green.

This compilation features music from two movies that were box office hits in 1957. “April Love” featured singer Pat Boone and “Tammy and the Bachelor” featured Debbie Reynolds, who also contributes the four bonus tracks.

This compilation features inspirational religious songs that Jane Russell recorded in the 1950s with a trio, completed by Connie Haines and Beryl Davis. Bonus tracks include songs Jane performed in her movies ‘The French Line’ and ‘The Revolt Of Mamie Stover’ and, showcasing, her comic timing, are two rare narratives – “Hollywood Cinderella” and “Hollywood Riding Hood”.

In the early 1940s Connie Haines was a popular vocalist with the big bands of Harry James and Tommy Dorsey. This compilation focuses on her solo career that began shortly after WW2 including duets with the likes of Bob Crosby, Alan Dale and Van Johnson.

“In Her Own Write” is the definitive collection of Petula Clark's finest compositions, encompassing the period between 1980 and 1995. As well as her compositions it features stunning memorable performances from Petula herself and 18 of the tracks are being released on CD for the very first time. The sumptuous sixteen page booklet that accompanies the album features a detailed track by track commentary as well as liner notes specially written by Dee Shipman and Tony Hatch plus many stunning photos including previously unpublished shots.

Available at long last – the stunning previously unreleased album by Twiggy, produced by Donna Summer The album was recorded at Rusk Studios, Hollywood in 1979. Twiggy was the image of the Swinging ‘60s, the first Supermodel and the star of The Boy Friend. And now she is the face of Marks & Spencer. The complete “Heaven In My Eyes” album is now available for the first time with bonus 2007 dance remixes by the OUTpsiDER.

“Free As Air” was composed by Julian Slade and Dorothy Reynolds’ and it went straight into London’s Savoy Theatre in June 1957 where it played for 417 performances. The main roles were performed by Gillian Lewis, Gerald Harper, John Trevor, Patricia Bredin and Josephine Tewson and the London cast recording is now available on CD for the first time. Bonus tracks include a piano selection of the score performed by Julian Slade as well as other Julian Slade songs written while he was at Cambridge and as resident composer for the Bristol Old Vic Company.

Don Cherry was a popular vocalist in America in the 1950s. He made over 70 recordings for Decca most of which have never been available on CD. This double set includes 51 sides from the Decca period as well as tracks recorded for Columbia including ‘Band Of Gold’, one of his biggest hits.

26 tracks by the singer Jane Morgan, who was an exceptional song stylist. Boston-born she had a successful career as a vocalist in Paris, London and America.

This collection presents the first ever stereo version of ‘Grab Me A Gondola’, a long-running musical comedy in London in the 1950s that starred Joan Heal and Denis Quilley. It’s completed with the recorded highlights from the London productions of Pal Joey’ and ‘Wonderful Town’ which starred Shani Wallis who also contributes two bonus pop recordings.

Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt’s ‘The Fantasticks’ remains the longest running musical in the world, and this TER re-release is a recording of the Original Off Broadway Cast. It features many performers who would go on to become major names in American musical theatre including Jerry Orbach, Kenneth Nelson, Rita Gardner and William Larsen.

This classic TER release of the seminal collaboration between Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht, documents the now legendary 1954 production of ‘The Threepenny Opera’. Marc Blitzen’s English adaptation of the book and lyrics, relocated this 1920’s Berlin stage piece, to 19th Century London and the cast includes Scott Merrill, Martin Wolfson, Jo Sullivan and Lotte Lenya.

Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow is considered as the composer’s masterpiece. This recording is of a production by the New Sadler’s Wells Opera, featuring Elddwen Harrhy, Alan Oke, Helen Kucharek and Glenn Winsdale amongst others. It was digitally recorded at Abbey Road Studios and has now been newly digitally remastered.

Based on Voltaire’s classic novel, this was the operetta that brought Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim back together for the first time since ‘West Side Story’.
