MOSTAR SEVDAH REUNION

Café Sevdah

Cat. No: SR66009

Release Date: 26 November

Mostar Sevdah Reunion has been acclaimed around the world as the leading group playing Bosnian traditional music called sevdah. The band started out as a group of local, talented and experienced musicians, old friends who recorded their first album in 1999. It became an instant hit with the world music audience and since then they have become a major world music attraction performing on various world music festivals and receiving a number of music awards.

Mostar Sevdah Reunion have often collaborated with renowned musicians in the field of gypsy music. They made two albums with Gypsy legend Saban Bajramovic and two albums with Ljiljana Buttler - The Mother of Gypsy Soul. Working and recording with these two Gypsy legends meant that they were able to show the amazing variety of Balkans music and to give the respect that this uncompromising Gypsy music deserves. A one hour documentary about the band was made by BBC4 as the part of the series "The Roots of European Blues" in 2005.

"Cafe Sevdah" presents a new dimension of sevdah music. It mixes of traditional Bosnian music and jazz/blues influences and presenta a new discovery by the band, Nermin Alukic Cerkez with his intense vocals and oriental guitar playing. They are also joined by guest vocalists on the CD – Suad Golic, Elmedin Balalic and 70 years old Fevzija Sarajlic. Café Sevdah” further develops the links between sevdah and blues - a trend that has been recognised by the press and concert goers throughout the world.
