JOHN McLAUGHLIN Floating Point CD ABLX011 Guitar legend and composer John McLaughlin guitarist has appeared on some of the most important jazz fusion and world music albums in the last 40 years, from Tony Williams Lifetime and Miles Davis’s early electric albums to his own ground-breaking outfits, the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Shakti. For ‘Floating Point’, which was recorded in India, McLaughlin used several of the best Indian musicians in the world. Together they have created a recording which McLaughlin describes as “Jazz fusion” with a “World” flavour and he goes on to say that it may be the best record he’s ever made.

JOHN McLAUGHLIN Meeting of the Minds - The Making of Floating Point DVD ABLX012 This 80 minute film documents for the first time, what happens in a recording session by the guitar legend and composer John McLaughlin. Filmed over five days in a studio in India, you get an intimate view of the way great musicians work together and create new music with spontaneity and vitality. For this ‘meeting of the minds’, McLaughlin invited some of the most outstanding instrumentalists including keyboardist Louiz Banks, drummer Ranjit Barot, electric sitarist Niladri Kumar, flautists Shashank and Naveen Kumar, percussionist Sivamani, vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, electric mandolinist U.Rajesh, and Hindustini slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya.

CHRIS BISCOE QUARTET Gone In The Air - The Music of Eric Dolphy CD TR578 The latest release from Trio Records pays tribute to the music of Eric Dolphy with an album by four leading contemporary British musicians led by saxophonist Chris Biscoe. Released almost exactly 80 years to the day after his birth in 1928, ‘Gone In The Air’ documents the enormous influence that Dolphy had as a performer and composer on musicians throughout the world. PETER IND Sixty Years With My Bass … Well, Almost! CD WAVECD22 The veteran bassist, and founder of Wave Records, Peter Ind celebrates his 80th birthday in 2008. Ind lived in the USA in the 1950s, studying and playing with Lennie Tristano and on his return to the UK founded the Bass Clef club, which played a crucial role in the London jazz scene of the ‘80s and ‘90s. This new release features tracks from a solo concert by Ind recorded at Berkeley in California in 1965 as well as duos and trios with guitarist Tony Barnard and saxophonist Matt Wates.
DISTRICT SIX Leave My Name At The Door CD WAVECD29 First time on CD for this live session recorded at the Bass Clef club in 1985 by District Six. This popular band featured South African-born musicians exiled in London, including Jim Dvorak, Mervyn Africa, and Brian Ab rahams who provided a great display of township-influenced jazz.
MATT ROSS / EDDIE THOMPSON Beauty and the Beat CD WAVECD19 First time on CD for this 1983 piano duo recording by two leading British jazz pianist, Matt Ross and Eddie Thompson, who perform a set of popular jazz standards. Matt Ross was well-known on the London jazz scene in the 1980s and Eddie Thompson, who died in 1986, was a talented musician who made a name for himself on both sides of the Atlantic.
DUKE JORDAN Live At The Bass Clef CD WAVECD20 First time on CD for this 1990 live session recorded at London’s Bass Clef club by the legendary jazz pianist Duke Jordan who played piano for Charlie Parker in the 1940s. With Peter Ind on bass and Mark Taylor on drums, Jordan performs a set of jazz standards, including his own classic composition, “Jordu”.
NEW PAUL WHITEMAN ORCHESTRA Music of the Roaring Twenties CD WAVECD27 First time on CD for this live 1975 concert recording by the New Paul Whiteman Orchestra whose personnel included leading American and British musicians including Richard Sudhalter, Nat Peck, Keith Nicholls, Harry Gold, Peter Ind, John R.T. Davies, Chris Ellis and Duncan Campbell. The band performs music associated with the ‘King of Jazz’ Paul Whiteman from the original scores.

PAUL WHITEMAN King Of Jazz - 1920-1927 CD CBC1093 25 tracks by the bandleader Paul Whiteman who was one of the most interesting figures in American music during the first half of the 20th century. His band performed and recorded just about every popular song title in the 1920s (including the premiere of Rhapsody in Blue) and it included major jazz musicians such as Bix Beiderbecke and Jack Teagarden.
